6th Grade TJMS students are expected to write a basic lab report for almost every lab. This is to prepare the students for High School and College, in which lab reports are a requisite.

- The lab is introduced prior.
- Students write a pre-lab (consisting of Background Info, Hypothesis, and Materials) to demonstrate to me that they understand the lab AND have an educated hypothesis about the lab upon arriving.
- Lab is conducted.
- Students finish the Lab Report (consisting of Procedures, Results, Analysis, and Conclusion) and hand it in.
How to Write a Good Lab Report!
52 points total + 8 points pre-lab = 60 points total

Explain the science content behind the lab. What is the importance of the lab, what will this lab prove? New vocabulary (if any) should go here. (2-3 sentences)
*Hypothesis: (5 points)
What is your specific hypothesis? What do you think will happen in this lab or what will the results suggest? One sentence statement.
*Materials: (5 points)
What materials will you use? Write in bullet form. No paragraphs please.
Procedure: (10 points)
What did you do? Be very specific here. Write in numerical form/bullets. No paragraphs please.
Results: (8 points)
Your data should be in a table and/or graph form with properly labeled axis. There should be no written explanation here. Save that for the analysis section
Analysis: (8 points)
What happened in the lab? Explain and analyze your data.
Conclusion: (8 points)
What is the importance of your results? Was your hypothesis correct? What did you learn? All 3 questions need to be answered!!!!!
