6th Grade Scientists are Safe:
Joking aside...
The Science Safety Rules are posted below. All rules are expected to be followed in Ms. Ling's class.
If students are unable to abide to any of these rules, students will be temporarily removed from Science lab to a nearby classroom. Students will still learn the objectives of the lesson by alternative means and without being in the Science classroom.
There is no compromise in the safety of other students.
The safety practices are below to serve as a reminder. Thank you, 6th graders, for demonstrating these practices during Science lab!

Safety Practices for the Science Lab
1. Students should not handle equipment before the class begins.
2. Read and listen to all instructions before beginning an experiment. Ask for help if you do not understand the directions.
3. It is unsafe to touch your face, mouth, or eyes while working in the lab. If you are using chemicals, be sure to wash your hands at the end of the period.
4. No substance should be tasted unless the directions clearly state that tasting is safe.
5. Chemicals should never be mixed "just to see what happens."
6. Safety glasses must be worn when using a flame or handling certain chemicals.
7. Long hair should be pulled back away from the face by a rubber band when using a flame. Loosely hanging clothing is a potential hazard.
8. Report all class injuries to the teacher regardless of how minor they might appear.
9. Use special care in handling hot objects. Know the proper first aid for burns.
10. Dispose of broken glass and matches in the special containers provided.
11. Wipe up all chemical spills immediately! This includes water.
12. Do not move about the lab unnecessarily. This would include such dangerous acts as running, chasing, and shoving.
13. Know the procedures for fire and tornado drills.
14. Know the location of the eyewash station, and know how to operate it correctly.
15. Avoid the direct breathing of chemical fumes.
16. Never remove any materials, equipment, or chemicals from the science lab.
17. No student will be dismissed from the class until all equipment and chemicals are returned to their proper place. Dismissal is done by the teacher and not by the bell.
